FC Middle Rebels shut out Cascade for home win

The Franklin County Middle soccer Rebels beat the Cascade Champions 3-0 at home Wednesday for their third win of the season.

The Rebels put up one goal in the first half and added another two scores after halftime as they picked up their third straight shutout victory to begin the season.

Edber Perez got the Rebels on the board in the first half as he scored off an assist from Joshua Gomez for his second goal of the season.

Franklin County led 1-0 at halftime.

The Rebels added to their lead about 10 minutes into the second half when the ball bounced around the goal box between a few players before Gomez fired a shot into the net to make it a 2-0 game.

Gomez struck for another goal with about 30 seconds remaining to put the game completely out of reach as he scored off an assist from Garrett Thompson to put the final deficit at three. Gomez has three goals so far this season for Franklin County.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 3-0 on the season.

Gators fall to Coffee County in home matchup

The North Middle School baseball Gators lost to the Coffee County Raiders 6-2 at home Wednesday for their fourth loss of the season.

The Gators fell behind in the middle innings and weren’t able to score until the final frame as the Raiders completed a sweep of their season series.

The Gators moved runners scoring position in four of the first five innings, but they weren’t able to capitalize and bring any of them in to score.

The Raiders broke the scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the top of the third and another run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead at the game’s midway point.

The Raiders tacked on another run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh to bring the late deficit up to 6-0.

The Gators avoided the shutout with two runs in the seventh inning as Konner Lively hit an RBI single and Colson Kelley drew a walk with the bases loaded for an RBI. They also brought the potential tying run to the plate with one out in the frame, but they wouldn’t be able to score again as they lost by four.

Kelley pitched the first four innings for the Gators with three strikeouts, three hits, two earned runs and one unearned run allowed.

Preston Steele pitched two innings in relief with one hit and one run allowed, and Mason Wiggs pitched the final inning with one hit and two runs allowed.

With the loss, the Gators moved to 0-4 on the season.

They will next play on March 18 at Moore County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Trojans drop road contest to Warren County

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the Warren County Pioneers 8-1 on the road Wednesday for their second loss of the season.

The Trojans were held hitless for the day as the Pioneers pulled ahead in the second inning and never looked back to give South a loss for the day.

The Trojans loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the second on walks by Cameron Denton, Conner Parker and Levi Lindsey, and Lane Blevins then drew a bases-loaded walk with one out to bring Denton across to score and give South a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead would be short-lived as the Pioneers scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame to pull ahead.

The Pioneers added one run each in the fourth and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth to expand their advantage out to seven runs late.

The Trojans loaded up the bases again in the top of the seventh as Blevins, Brennan Taylor and Layton Jones each drew walks with one out in the frame, but they wouldn’t be able to score this time as the Trojans lost by seven.

Jones pitched the first 3 1-3 innings for the Trojans with five strikeouts, five hits, three earned runs and one unearned run allowed.

Avery Jackson recorded two outs in relief with one hit and no runs allowed. Parker pitched to three batters with no outs recorded and one run allowed.

Lindsey pitched the final two innings with four hits and three runs allowed.

With the loss, the Trojans moved to 2-2 on the season.

They will next play on March 16 at home against Coffee County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
