FC Middle Rebelettes take road loss to Coffee County

S

The Franklin County Middle Rebelettes lost to the Coffee County Lady Raiders 8-4 on the road Thursday for their second loss of the season.

The Rebelettes took an early lead in the contest, but the Lady Raiders jumped ahead in the fifth inning and pulled away in the sixth to give FC Middle the loss.

The Lady Raiders loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second after a single and two walks, but pitcher Victoria Nelson induced a flyout to end the inning and get out of the jam.

The Rebelettes responded by creating their own bases-loaded situation in the top of the third as Dalayna Marshall hit a leadoff single which was followed by walks to Addison Partin and Madi Morris.

Marshall and Partin both went on to score off wild pitches to give Franklin County a 2-0 lead, and after a walk was issued to Kyleigh DeCamp, she and Morris executed a double steal with DeCamp sliding safely into second base while Morris raced home to make it a 3-0 game.

The Lady Raiders got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the third with an RBI single to put the overall score at 3-1.

The Rebelettes added to their lead in the top of the fifth as Morris hit a leadoff single and came around to score on an RBI double hit by DeCamp.

The first three Coffee County batters in the bottom of the fifth drew walks to load the bases once again. Nelson got the next two batters out on a strikeout and a lineout, but consecutive two-out, two run singles by the Lady Raiders flipped the scoreboard and put the Rebelettes behind by a score of 5-4 late.

The Lady Raiders added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as their cleanup hitter drove a pitch over the center-field fence for a three-run home run to bring the deficit up to 8-4.

The Rebelettes weren’t able to answer back in the top of the seventh as they lost by four.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-2 on the season.

They will next play on March 23 at Harris Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
