FC Middle Rebelettes rally for walk-off win versus Coffee County

The Franklin County Middle softball Rebelettes beat the Coffee County Lady Raiders 12-11 at home Monday for their first win of the season.

The Rebelettes scored six runs in the final inning and completed their rally with a walk-off double by Kyleigh DeCamp to clinch the victory.

The Lady Raiders got out to a quick lead as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Rebelettes made up some ground in the bottom half of the first on a two-run single by Alex Hand to put the score at 3-2 early.

The Rebelettes tied the score in the bottom of the second when Dalayna Marshall hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Addison Partin and scored on a wild pitch.

They took their first lead of the day in the third inning when Raelyn Wainwright hit a sacrifice fly to bring Leah Hardison across home plate to make it a 4-3 game.

However, the Lady Raiders scored five runs in the top of the fourth to regain control of the scoreboard and put the Rebelettes in an 8-4 hole at the game’s midway point.

The Rebelettes chipped away some of the deficit in the bottom of the fifth when Hand hit an RBI groundout and Addilyn Carter added an RBI on a sacrifice fly to put the score at 8-6.

The Lady Raiders responded with three more runs in the top of the sixth as the Rebelettes trailed by an 11-6 margin going into the seventh and final inning.

The Rebelettes got off to a strong start in the bottom of the seventh as consecutive RBI doubles by Carter and Victoria Nelson made it a three-run game with only one out recorded in the frame.

Marshall hit an RBI single to score Nelson from second base, and an error on a ball hit by Partin put the tying run on base before Morris hit a two-run double to tie the score at 11-11 and put herself into scoring position as the potential winning run.

DeCamp came up to bat and lined the first pitch she saw into the outfield for a walk-off double to bring Morris in to score and finish off the comeback performance.

Nelson pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with nine hits, six earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

Hardison pitched the final three innings in relief and had two strikeouts, seven hits and three unearned runs allowed.

With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 1-1 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at Coffee County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Trojans notch pair of home victories

The South Middle School baseball Trojans beat the Warren County Pioneers 5-1 at home Tuesday for their second win of the season.

The Trojans broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth as they picked up a victory in their first conference game of the year.

The Trojans were the first team on the board as Brennan Taylor hit into an RBI groundout in the bottom of the second to give his team a 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold until the top of the fourth when a single and an error with one out put a Warren County runner on third base, and that runner scored on an RBI groundout by the next batter to tie the score at 1-1.

After a few scoreless frames from both teams, the Trojans pulled back ahead in the bottom of the sixth as Lane Blevins opened the scoring in the frame with an RBI single. Taylor added a two-run single later in the inning, and Layton Jones concluded the action with an RBI triple to give the Trojans a 5-1 lead late.

South pitcher Cameron Denton retired all three Warren County batters in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win by four. Denton pitched a complete game for the Trojans with six strikeouts, three hits and one unearned run allowed.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 2-1 on the season.

Trojans 7, South Pittsburg 4

The Trojans beat the South Pittsburg Pirates 7-4 at home Monday for their first win of the season.

The Trojans did most of their scoring in the first two innings of the five-inning matchup as they were able to maintain a solid lead the rest of the way.

The Pirates got the scoring started by scoring a run off of an error in the top of the first.

However, the Trojans answered back quickly as an RBI single by Avery Jackson and a two-run single by Connor Parker gave them a 3-1 advantage in the bottom of the first.

The Trojans struck for another three runs in the bottom of the second as Taylor scored off of an error on a ball hit by Jones, Ayden Hodosi hit an RBI single and Denton added an RBI double to grow the early lead to 6-1.

The Pirates scored a run in the top of the third to cut away a small portion of the deficit.

The Trojans got their last run of the day in the bottom of the fourth as Jones successfully stole home while Jackson was caught in a rundown between first and second base. The heads-up play made it a five-run game going into the final inning.

The Pirates were able to score two more runs in the top of the fifth, but the Trojans didn’t let them get any closer as they won by three.

Jones pitched the first 2 1-3 innings for the Trojans with three strikeouts, no hits and one run allowed.

Jackson pitched the next 1 2-3 innings in relief with one strikeout, three hits and one unearned run allowed. Parker closed out the final inning of the game with one strikeout, one hit and two runs allowed.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at Warren County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

FC Middle Rebels rout Coffee County in road matchup

The Franklin County Middle soccer Rebels beat the Coffee County Raiders 6-0 on the road Monday for their second win of the season.

The Rebels scored three goals in each half as they were in complete control throughout the contest.

Weber Bradford and Alex Dominico led the scoring for the Rebels with each netting two goals in the contest.

Joshua Gomez and Garrett Thompson rounded out the scoring with each recording one goal for the day.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 2-0 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at home against Cascade Middle School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Middle school Hornets take two losses to Cascade

The Huntland Middle School baseball Hornets lost to the Cascade Champions 12-3 at home Tuesday for their second loss of the season.

The Hornets trailed for a majority of the night with the Champions pulling away in the last few innings to give them a decisive loss.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Champions scored one run in the second inning and three in the third to take a 4-0 lead early.

The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the third when Bryant Mooney came through with an RBI single to make it a 4-1 game.

Mooney drove in another run for the Hornets in the bottom of the fifth as he hit into an RBI groundout to put the score at 4-2.

However, the Champions put up another three runs in the top of the sixth and five runs in the seventh to push the deficit to an even 10 runs late.

The Hornets scored one more time in the bottom of the seventh on another RBI single by Mooney, but that would be it for their offense as they lost by nine.

With the loss, the Hornets moved to 0-2 on the season.

Cascade 9, Hornets 8

The Hornets lost to the Cascade Champions 9-8 on the road Monday in their first game of the season.

The Hornets rallied from an early four-run deficit to tie the score in the top of the seventh, but the Champions pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning to give them a walk-off loss.

The Hornets scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning with Luke Yarbrough and Tyler Guess coming around to score as they took an early 2-0 lead.

However, the Champions responded with six runs in the bottom half of the first to quickly pull ahead by a score of 6-2.

Brayden Fanning and Parker Schultz scored one run each for the Hornets in the top of the fifth to chip the deficit down to two, but the Champions matched that scoring output with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to maintain the four-run deficit.

The Hornets got another two runs in the top of the sixth with Kasen Kildoo and Guess doing the scoring to put the score at 8-6 late.

In the top of the seventh, the Hornets were able to push Evan Goode and Lucas Freeman across to score with the run by Freeman tying the score at 8-8.

However, the Champions didn’t let the game go to extra innings as they scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Hornets a loss by one.

With the loss, the Hornets started their season with a record of 0-1.

They will next play Monday at home against Moore County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

Gators shut out by Coffee County in road loss

The North Middle School baseball Gators lost to the Coffee County Raiders 3-0 on the road Monday for their third loss of the season.

The game was a pitchers’ duel throughout as the Gators were held to one total hit for the day, and the Raiders did all of their scoring in the bottom of the sixth to decide the contest.

The lone hit of the contest for the Gators came in the top of the first inning as Kyran Peace hit a two-out double before being stranded at second base.

The Gators had additional baserunners throughout the contest due to walks and errors, but none of them were able to advance past second base.

North’s pitching held the Raiders in check for most of the day as well, but the Raiders broke through for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the scoreless tie.

The Gators had one runner in the top of the seventh after Carson Lewis drew a walk and was replaced by Kingzli Wells as a pinch runner. However, Wells wouldn’t be able to advance beyond first base as North lost by three.

Konner Lively started on the mound for the Gators and pitched five shutout innings with four strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Jackson Carr pitched one inning in relief with two hits, one earned run and two unearned runs allowed.

With the loss, the Gators moved to 0-3 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at home against Coffee County Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Lady Hornets drop road contest to Community

The Huntland Middle School softball Lady Hornets lost to the Community Viqueens 11-1 on the road Monday in their first game of the season.

The Lady Hornets fell behind by a decent margin early in the contest with the game ending after five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Viqueens scored two runs each in the first and second innings to put the early deficit at 4-0.

The Lady Hornets recorded their lone run of the day in the top of the third when Millie Walker hit an RBI double with two outs to put the score at 4-1.

However, the Viqueens scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth after a scoreless third inning on their end to push the lead up to 6-1.

The game would be brought to an end in the bottom of the fifth as the Viqueens put up five runs in the frame to defeat Huntland by 10.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets began their season with a record of 0-1.

They will next play Friday at home against Cascade Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
