The Franklin County High School boys soccer team lost to the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions 5-0 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Park Tuesday for the team’s second loss of the season.

The Lions controlled a majority of the contest and expanded on their lead throughout the game while Franklin County was shut out for the first time this season.

Franklin County head soccer coach Kent Bean said that the game will serve as a learning experience for his team as they prepare for their upcoming district schedule.

“It definitely wasn’t our prettiest game, but it was a good test for our guys to see how we did against a really, really good team,” he said, adding that the Lions will likely be the best team that his players see during the regular season. “It gave us a lot to talk about and work on.”

The Lions got their first goal of the day about 16 minutes into the contest, and they scored again about five minutes later to put the early deficit at 2-0.

The Lions added another goal with about eight minutes remaining in the first half to make it a three-score game.

Franklin County trailed 3-0 at halftime.

The Lions added to their advantage with a goal about seven minutes into the second half. Their final score came with about 13 minutes remaining to put the final deficit at five.

Franklin County’s offense created a few scattered scoring opportunities throughout the contest, but none of those chances turned into goals as the team was ultimately shut out.

With the loss, Franklin County moved to 3-2 on the season.

The boys soccer team will next play Tuesday at home against Shelbyville Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
