The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Warren County Pioneers 8-1 on the road Thursday for their third loss of the season.
The Pioneers scored at least one run in every inning to outpace Huntland as the Hornets took their third straight defeat.
The Hornets scored their lone run in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Evan Keller.
The Pioneers countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, and they scored two runs in the second inning to make it a 3-1 game.
The deficit continued to grow in the middle innings as the Pioneers scored one run in the third and two in the fourth to make it a five-run game.
On the other side, the Hornets moved runners into scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but they weren’t able to turn those scoring opportunities into runs.
The Pioneers scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings to bring the deficit up to 8-1 late.
The Hornets loaded the bases in the top of the seventh when Trace Morris singled and Keller and Matthew Dickson both walked, but they once again were unable to push the runners across as they lost by seven.
Morris started the game for the Hornets and pitched the first three innings with four strikeouts, four hits, three earned runs and one unearned run allowed.
Daltyn Howell recorded two outs in relief with one hit and two runs allowed.
Kannon Lafevers pitched the final 2 1-3 innings with one strikeout, one hit and two runs allowed.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 1-3 on the season.
They will next play Friday at home against Community High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
