Trojans drop road opener to Lincoln County

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the Lincoln County Falcons 9-4 on the road Wednesday in their first game of the season.

The Trojans got off to a strong start and took the lead in the top of the third inning, but the Falcons took control of the game with a four-run fourth inning and pulled away with another three runs in the fifth.

The Trojans put up two runs in the top of the first as Ayden Hodosi hit an RBI single and later came around to score when Connor Parker hit into a double play.

However, the Falcons answered back early with two runs in the bottom half of the first to tie the score at 2-2.

The Trojans took the lead again in the top of the third when Levi Lindsey hit an RBI single to bring Hodosi in for another run as they put the score at 3-2.

That lead would hold until the bottom of the fourth when the Falcons capitalized off of a few South errors to score four runs in the frame and jump ahead by a score of 6-3. The Falcons tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to grow the deficit to six.

The Trojans were able to get one more run across in the top of the sixth with Layton Jones hitting into a fielder’s choice to score Tucker Harris from third, but that would be all for their offense as they went on to lose by five.

Cameron Denton pitched the first 3 1-3 innings for the Trojans with three strikeouts, three hits, one earned run and five unearned runs allowed.

Hodosi pitched the final 2 2-3 innings in relief with five strikeouts, two hits and three unearned runs allowed.

With the loss, the Trojans started the season with a record of 0-1.

They will next play Monday at home against South Pittsburg Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Gators take road loss to Warren County

The North Middle School Gators lost to the Warren County Pioneers 7-1 on the road Wednesday for their second loss of the season.

The Gators were the first team on the board and held a lead after three innings, but the Pioneers dominated the back half of the game to give them a loss.

The Gators scored their lone run of the day in the top of the second when Bryce Waldow drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Konner Lively in to score.

The Gators didn’t allow any runs until the bottom of the fourth when the Pioneers pushed a run across with a one-out single.

The Pioneers then broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to suddenly put the Gators in a 5-1 hole. Warren County scored two more times in the bottom of the sixth to make it a six-run game.

The Gators weren’t able to score any runs in the seventh inning as they lost by six.

Colson Kelley started the game for the Gators and pitched four innings with eight strikeouts, two hits, two earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

Isaac Winton pitched to three batters in relief with no outs recorded, and Mason Wiggs closed out the game with three strikeouts, one hit and two unearned runs allowed across two innings.

With the loss, the Gators moved to 0-2 on the season.

They will next play on March 9 at Coffee County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
