Four members of the Franklin County High School swim team competed in the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association’s state meet Friday and Saturday at the University of Tennessee.

The Franklin County swimmers had four total top-50 finishes at the meet with senior Austin Huffhines placing in the top 15 for two different events.

Austin Huffhines started his weekend of competition Friday with a ninth-place finish in the preliminary round of the boys 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.36 as he finished just 0.03 seconds behind McCallie’s George Goins for the last spot in the championship heat for the finals and settled for a slot in the consolation heat.

Austin Huffhines shaved 0.67 seconds off of his time in the 200-yard freestyle finals as he finished second in the consolation heat and 10^th overall for the event with a mark of 1:41.69.

He returned to competition on Saturday with a 10^th-place finish in the preliminary round of the boys 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.42 seconds.

However, Austin Huffhines wasn’t able to match that time in the consolation finals as he completed the event in 47.84 seconds to take fourth place for the heat and 13^th overall in the 100-yard freestyle.

The relay team of Carson Huffhines, Remington Hitchcox, Austin Huffhines and Sam Rhton finished 27^th out of 47 teams in the boys 200-yard medley relay Friday with a time of 1:47.09.

Carson Huffhines also swam to a top-50 finish as an individual as he placed 44^th out of 72 swimmers in the boys 100-yard backstroke on Saturday with a mark of 58.62 seconds. He also finished 56^th out of 96 in the boys 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.63.

Hitchcox narrowly missed out on cracking the top 50 in the boys 200-yard individual medley Friday as he placed 52^nd out of 78 with a time of 2:10.89, and Hitchcox also finished 74^th out of 88 in the boys 100-yard breaststroke Saturday with a mark of 1:07.94.

The state meet marked the conclusion of the season for the FCHS swim team.
