Gatorettes fall at West in overtime battle

The North Middle School Gatorettes lost to the West Lady Bobcats 41-40 in overtime on the road Thursday for their fourth loss of the season.

The contest was close throughout with the Gatorettes ultimately being edged out by a single point to close out their regular season.

The Lady Bobcats held an early advantage in the contest with the Gatorettes falling behind by a few possessions in the opening period.

They trailed 11-7 after one quarter.

The Gatorettes made up some ground in the second quarter, but they still faced a 16-13 deficit going into the halftime break. Gracen Baggett scored four of North’s six points in the second quarter.

The Gatorettes allowed just two points in the third quarter as they were able to flip the scoreboard entirely in their favor by the end of the period. Baggett scored seven of North’s 10 points in the third quarter.

They led 23-18 going into the final period.

However, the Gatorettes weren’t able to hold onto their five-point lead as the Lady Bobcats rallied to tie the score at 34-34 after four quarters of play.

The teams went back and forth in the overtime period with the Lady Bobcats emerging with the victory over North by the slimmest of margins. Baggett scored five of North’s six points in overtime.

Baggett led the Gatorettes with 20 points for the game, followed by Kenzie Arnold with 12 points and Sadie Hill with four.

Keira Turner scored two points, and Ariana Hill and Shayla Burnette scored one point each.

With the loss, the Gatorettes moved to 8-4 on the season.

They will next play in the Central Tennessee Conference tournament which is scheduled to begin next week. A bracket for the tournament had not been released at the time of writing.
