Exciting theatre series coming to SJCC
If you’re looking for some great, local entertainment, look no further than the South Jackson Civic Center located at 404 S. Jackson St. in Tullahoma.
Each year, the Civic Center entertains and educates with a variety of programs for the community. Programs include its Educational Outreach Series which provides quality programming at affordable prices for schools; the Performing Arts Series, which includes a variety of show styles offered to attract different audiences; and other events including South Jackson Goes Country, dance recitals, festivals on the grounds and an ice-cream social. In addition, SJCC’s Mitchell Museum includes exhibits that pertain to Tullahoma’s local city and area history.
The upcoming Community Playhouse Theatre Series will present the musical comedy “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” Feb. 9-12 at 7 p.m.
The popular “Ultimate Oldies 70’s & 80’s” show will be presented on Feb. 18 featuring a fun show celebrating the music and dancing of the 70s and 80s.
The classic musical “Into the Woods” will be presented March 24-26 and March 31 as well as April 1-2. This musical pays tribute to the brilliance of Sondheim, offering favorite fairytale characters as they enter the woods again and again to discover more about life and the difference a wish can make.
Mark your calendar for April 21-23 to see “The Jungle Book,” featuring a fresh, new retelling of the show accompanied by favorite music.
The SJCC was formed in 1977 to “Save South Jackson,” a grassroots effort to halt the destruction of the South Jackson School. Nestled in the core of the building is Tullahoma’s first public school, built in 1886.
The South Jackson Civic Center opened its doors in January 1979 with its first performance.
The South Jackson Civic Association has operated for the past 40 years as a presenting organization, museum and community resource serving the Middle Tennessee counties of Franklin, Coffee, Moore, Bedford and Warren.
The Civic Center contains rehearsal facilities, conference and meeting rooms, a 400-seat auditorium, a full stage with a proscenium arch and the local history museum.
Show tickets are available at southjacksonciviccenter.thundertix.com. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed Saturday and Sunday).
