Rebelettes take close road loss to Scottsboro

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Scottsboro Lady Wildcats 49-48 on the road Thursday for their 11th loss of the season.
The Rebelettes rallied from a six-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Wildcats answered back with a rally of their own to retake the lead and held off Franklin County in the final seconds.
The Rebelettes scored the first six points of the game and were able to stay in front throughout the opening period.
They led 15-11 after one quarter.
However, the Lady Wildcats opened the second quarter with a 13-2 run to take control of the scoreboard for the rest of the half. Shayla Kennerly scored all five of Franklin County’s points in the second quarter.
Franklin County trailed 27-20 at halftime.
The deficit was steady throughout the third quarter as the Rebelettes cut the lead down to four points multiple times in the period without being able to draw any closer. Madison King scored all 10 of Franklin County’s points in the third quarter.
They trailed 36-30 going into the final period.
The Rebelettes started the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run which was capped off by consecutive 3-pointers from Danica Stovall to give them a 43-38 lead midway through the period.
The Lady Wildcats came back to tie the score at 45-45 with about two minutes left, and Scottsboro fully took the lead back shortly after.
Facing a 49-45 deficit late, Paislie Edge hit a 3-pointer for the Rebelettes to make it a one-point game with 4.6 seconds on the clock. After a missed free throw by Scottsboro, the Rebelettes got the ball back and called a timeout with 2.6 seconds remaining.
However, a turnover on the ensuing inbounds pass gave the ball back to Scottsboro, and the Lady Wildcats were able to run out the clock as Franklin County lost by one.
King and Stovall led the Rebelettes with 13 points each for the game, followed by Baylor Russell with eight points and Mikah Brannon with six.
Kennerly scored five points and Edge scored three.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 6-11 on the season.
They will next play Tuesday at Madison County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
