Trojans outpaced by East in road matchup

The South Middle School Trojans lost to the East Panthers 47-34 on the road Thursday for their 13th loss of the season.

The Trojans faced a 13-point deficit at halftime and were not able to mount a rally in the second half as they took a loss to close out their regular season.

The score was kept close in the opening period with the Panthers taking a slight lead by the end of the quarter.

The Trojans trailed 8-5 after one quarter.

The Trojans fell into a sizable hole in the second quarter as the Panthers opened up a double-digit lead before halftime.

South trailed 26-13 at halftime.

The Trojans more than doubled their point total in the third quarter as they were able to chip away a decent chunk of the deficit.

They trailed 35-28 going into the final period.

However, the Panthers pulled back ahead by double digits in the fourth quarter, and the Trojans ran out of time as they lost by 13.

Levi Lindsey and Carson Moore led the Trojans with seven points each for the game, followed by Odeviyon Poe with five points and Brennan Taylor with four.

Layton Jones scored three points, and Jacoba Fells, Kaveon Sutton, Caleb Luong and Jayden Jackson scored two points each.

With the loss, the Trojans moved to 3-13 on the season.

They will next play in the Central Tennessee Conference tournament which is scheduled to begin next week. A bracket for the tournament had not been released at the time of writing.
