Rebelettes fall to Shelbyville in road district matchup

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes 56-44 on the road Tuesday for their 14th loss of the season.

The Rebelettes fell behind by a decent amount early in the district contest and weren’t able to mount a comeback before the end of the game.

The Rebelettes got off to a slow start on offense which allowed the Golden Eaglettes to create a double-digit deficit in the opening period. Na’Kayjah Holman scored all five of Franklin County’s points in the first quarter.

Franklin County trailed 15-5 after one quarter.

The Rebelettes were able to get their offense rolling in the second quarter and cut away a small piece of the early deficit. Katie Walker scored eight of Franklin County’s 14 points in the second quarter.

They trailed 27-19 at halftime.

The Rebelettes made it a three-point game two minutes into the third quarter, but the Golden Eaglettes proceeded to go on a 12-2 run to end the period with a double-digit advantage once again. Walker scored seven of Franklin County’s 10 points in the third quarter.

Franklin Country trailed 42-29 going into the final period.

The deficit remained steady throughout the fourth quarter as the Rebelettes lost by 12 points.

Walker led the Rebelettes with 19 points for the game, followed by Holman with seven points and Shayla Kennerly with five.

Madison King and Baylor Russell scored four points each, Paislie Edge scored three and Danica Stovall scored two.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 7-14 on the season and 0-3 in district play.

They will next play Friday at Warren County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
