Lady Hornets take shutout loss to Cascade

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Cascade Lady Champions 6-0 at home on April 2 for their fifth loss of the season.

The Lady Hornets were held scoreless for the first time this season as the Lady Champions steadily pulled away from them throughout the contest.

The Lady Champions scored two runs each in the second and third innings to put the Lady Hornets in an early 4-0 hole.

The Lady Hornets put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth as Kinah Mason and Lily Jackson hit consecutive one-out singles, but a fielder’s-choice double play then ended the inning.

The Lady Champions capitalized on Huntland errors in the fifth and sixth innings to score one run in each frame and grow the deficit to 6-0 late.

The Lady Hornets were unable to break through for any runs in the final two innings as they went on to lose by six.

Mason pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets with six strikeouts, nine hits, one walk, two earned runs and four unearned runs allowed for the day.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 2-5 on the season.

They next played Tuesday at home against Richland High School in a game which came after the Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
