Rebelettes drop home district contest to Lawrence

The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Lawrence County Lady Wildcats 7-6 at home on April 16 for their 13th loss of the season.

The Rebelettes fell behind by five runs in the sixth inning of the district contest with a late rally coming up just one run short.

The Lady Wildcats scored one run each in the first and second innings to put the Rebelettes in an early 2-0 hole.

The Rebelettes were able to tie the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Leah Hardison drew a bases-loaded walk and Kaitlyn Montgomery hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Avari Rice, pinch-running for Alex Hand, from third base.

The tie would be broken in the top of the fifth as a two-out RBI single from the Lady Wildcats put them back in front by a 3-2 margin.

The Lady Wildcats had seven runners reach base in the top of the sixth with four of them being brought around to score to make it a 7-2 game late.

The Rebelettes were able to make up some ground in the bottom of the sixth as Addilyn Carter came through with a two-run double to put the score at 7-4.

Singles from Montgomery and Addison Partin and a walk drawn by Victoria Nelson loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh, and an RBI single from Carter followed by a Lawrence County error on the same play allowed Montgomery and Partin to score to cut the deficit down to 7-6 with the potential tying run moving up to second base.

However, a strikeout and a groundout then ended the contest as the Rebelettes lost by one.

Bella Smith pitched the first two innings for the Rebelettes with one strikeout, two hits, three walks, one earned run and one unearned run allowed for the day.

Nelson pitched 3 2-3 hitless, shutout innings in relief with six strikeouts and one walk allowed.

Dalayna Marshall pitched 1 1-3 innings in relief with five hits, three walks, two earned runs and three unearned runs allowed.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 14-13 on the season and 3-4 in district play.

They next played Monday at home against Warren County High School in a game which came after the Herald Chronicle’s press deadline.
