The Raiderettes scored two runs in the second inning and three in the third to put Huntland in an early 5-0 hole.
However, the Lady Hornets flipped the scoreboard with a seven- run frame in the bottom of the third as Millie Walker and Catara Johnson scored off of an error on a ball hit by Emily Stewart; Kinah Mason hit an RBI single; Aliza Hill, pinch-running for Mason, and Natalynn Bolin both scored on passed balls; Lily Jackson scored off of an error on a ball hit by Bolin; and Emmalyn Ennies recorded an RBI single in the inning.

Ennies followed with a single of her own to move Bolin up to second base as the potential winning run, but a groundout ended the frame before she could advance any further.

Richland 4, Lady Hornets 1
The Lady Hornets lost to the Richland Lady Raiders 4-1 at Cornersville on May 7 in a semifinal game for the District 9A tournament.
The Lady Raiders scored all of their runs for the game in the bottom of the fifth, and the Lady Hornets weren’t able to mount a comeback in response as they took their first loss in the district bracket.
Huntland head softball coach Michael Tipps said that his team struggled to gain much offensive momentum throughout the day against Richland pitcher Abigail West.
“We didn’t hit enough balls to put any pressure on them. We put balls in play. I think we had one strikeout the whole day, but we never made an adjustment to staying back, trusting our hands and going the opposite way,” he said, adding that West did a good job of mixing up her pitch speeds to keep his team off-balance. “Then, (Richland) hit one inning, and that was all it took.”
The Lady Raiders opened the bottom of the first with a walk and a bunt single to instantly move a runner into scoring position, but Mason then induced two lineouts and struck out a batter to strand both runners.
Stewart led off the top of the fourth with a single and moved up to second base on a passed ball a few pitches later, but she wasn’t able to advance any further as a popout and two flyouts ended the inning.
The scoreless tie would be broken in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Raiders recorded five hits and scored four runs in the frame to pull away.
The Lady Hornets attempted to rally in the top of the seventh as Jackson doubled, Bolin drew a walk and Ennies recorded a two-out RBI single to drive in Jackson from third base and bring the potential tying run up to bat.
However, a groundout then ended the game as the Lady Hornets lost by three.
Mason pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets with nine strikeouts, 10 hits, two walks, three earned runs and one unearned run allowed for the day.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 10-8 on the season.
