Gatorettes pull away early to top rival Lady Trojans

The North Gatorettes beat the South Lady Trojans 40-22 at North Middle School Monday in a rivalry matchup between the two county programs.
The Gatorettes built up a double-digit lead in the first half and maintained it for the rest of the game to complete a season sweep of the rival Lady Trojans.
The Gatorettes established a decent lead over South in the opening period with the assistance of a pair of 3-pointers from Kenzie Arnold. Arnold scored eight of North’s 12 points in the first quarter.
The Gatorettes led 12-4 after one quarter.
Svetlana Fuqua scored the only two points for the Lady Trojans in the second quarter as the Gatorettes doubled their early advantage.
North led 25-6 at halftime.
The Lady Trojans found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter as they more than doubled their point total, but the Gatorettes still added a few more points to the lead.
North led 37-15 going into the final period.
The Gatorettes were held to three points in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer from Keira Turner as the Lady Trojans made up some ground before losing by 18.
Arnold and Turner led the Gatorettes with 11 points each for the game, followed by Gracen Baggett with 10 points.
Macie Davis, Ariana Hill, Sadie Hill and Shayla Burnette scored two points each.
The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Khylee Speich with seven points, followed by Fuqua with five points and Zoe Cole with four.
Victoria Latham, Payton Dearing and Lily Mayes scored two points each.
With the win, the Gatorettes improved to 8-3 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at West Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
With the loss, the Lady Trojans moved to 3-12 on the season.
They will next play Wednesday at home against Warren County Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
