Middle school Lady Hornets drop defensive contest at South Lincoln

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the South Lincoln Lady Eagles 24-18 on the road Thursday for their fifth loss of the season.
The Lady Hornets fell behind by a decent margin in the third quarter of the defensive contest and weren’t able to bounce back in the final period as their seven-game winning streak came to an end.
The Lady Hornets didn’t allow any points in the opening period, but they also only scored two points of their own in the quarter on a basket by Abbey Mason.
They led 2-0 after one quarter.
The Lady Eagles got on the board in the second quarter and went on to take the lead from the Lady Hornets before the end of the half. Emily Stewart scored all four of Huntland’s points in the second quarter.
Huntland trailed 8-6 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets were limited to four points again in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles pulled ahead by multiple possessions. Stratton Davis scored all of Huntland’s points in the third quarter.
Huntland trailed 17-10 going into the final period.
The Lady Hornets put together their best offensive period to end the game, but they only made up a small amount of ground before time ran out as they lost by six.
Davis led the Lady Hornets with six points for the game, followed by Catara Johnson and Stewart with four points each.
Millie Walker and Mason scored two points each.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 11-5 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Unity Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
