MILDRED REID
REID, Mildred Elizabeth, age 94, of Sewanee, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Elk River Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Sewanee, on Aug. 23, 1928, to the late John Miller and Cora Elizabeth (Sutherland) Reid. At the age of 18, Mildred started working in the medical field, eventually earning her LPN degree. She later retired from the University of the South at the age of 72. Mildred enjoyed crafting, crocheting, quilting and listening to music as well as spending time with her four-legged best friend, Taxi. She was an extremely independent and strong-willed lady, and also extremely giving. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own. Mildred was a dedicated member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James William Reid, Herman Cornelius Reid and Roy Miller Reid; many half-siblings; and niece, Elizabeth Summers. Mildred is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, James “Jim” Reid of Sherwood, Ray Herman Reid of Florida, Betty Payne of Monteagle, Kathy Johnson of Estill Springs, Connie Mitchell of Montgomery, Alabama, and Katie Regan of Florida; close family, Ronald Dale Taylor, Bobby Taylor and Mildred Orange; and friends, Ruth Green, Nancy Gilliam, Loretta Tomes and Freddie Tucker. Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. at Eastern Star Cemetery with Bro. James Taylor officiating.
