FC tracksters compete in KYA Indoor Track Classic

Brown earns indoor state berth
Nine members of the Franklin County High School track and field team competed in the Knoxville Youth Athletics Indoor Track Classic Saturday at Vanderbilt University.
The meet featured talented athletes from around the state with the top eight finishers in each event earning automatic berths to the state indoor track championships scheduled for Feb. 19 at Vanderbilt. Additional berths will be awarded to top performers at the end of the indoor track season.
La’Karis Brown was the lone Franklin County athlete to receive one of these automatic state berths for the day as she finished tied for seventh in the girls high jump with a top height of 1.5 meters. Madison Johnson, who was not attached to a team for the meet, finished first in the event with a height of 1.6 meters.
Lily Heath narrowly missed the cut for a state berth as she finished 10th out of 18 competitors in the girls triple jump with a leap of 9.83 meters. This put her 0.24 meters behind Kinder Sport Track’s Isabella Doyle for the final qualifying spot.
NaShawn Holman finished 23rd out of 125 runners in the boys 60-meter dash with a time of 7.35 seconds, and he placed 42nd out of 147 competitors in the boys 200-meter dash with a mark of 24 seconds.
Also competing in the boys 60 and 200 for Franklin County were Eric Jones, Na’Zaiyah Holman and Coastlon Ringer.
Jones finished 30th in the boys 60 with a time of 7.38 seconds and 80th in the boys 200 with mark of 24.99 seconds.
Na’Zaiyah Holman placed 57th in the boys 60 and 84th in the boys 200 with times of 7.58 seconds and 25.07 seconds, respectively.
Ringer had a 74th-place finish in the boys 60 and a 92nd-place finish in the boys 200 with respective times of 7.64 seconds and 25.2 seconds.
Rylan Banks rounded out the performances for Franklin County in the boys 60 as he placed 72nd with a mark of 7.64 seconds.
Kahlynia Vanzant ran in the girls 60-meter dash for her lone event of the day, and she finished 48th out of 113 runners with a time of 8.37 seconds.
Daniel Heath represented Franklin County in the boys 800-meter run as he placed 83rd out of 110 runners with a mark of 2:19.11.
