Middle school Lady Hornets take road loss to Unity

The Huntland Middle School Lady Hornets lost to the Unity Lady Lions 51-32 on the road Monday for their sixth loss of the season.

A majority of the deficit was created in the opening period as the Lady Hornets were not able to overcome a slow start to the contest.

The Lady Hornets put up just three points in the first quarter while the Lady Lions began the game with their best offensive period to create an early double-digit deficit.

Huntland trailed 19-3 after one quarter.

The Lady Hornets found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter with the deficit remaining steady throughout the period. Stratton Davis scored nine of Huntland’s 13 points in the second quarter.

They trailed 32-16 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets chipped away a small portion of the deficit in the third quarter, but they continued to remain behind by a sizable amount.

They trailed 41-26 going into the final period.

The Lady Lions ensured there would be no chance of a comeback as they pulled further ahead in the fourth quarter to give the Lady Hornets a 19-point loss.

Davis led the Lady Hornets with 17 points for the game, followed by Emily Stewart with five points and Abigail Denton with four.

Millie Walker, Jimena Perez and Lynsey Jakubowski scored two points each.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 11-6 on the season.

They will next play Wednesday at Fayetteville Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
