Lady Hornets rally from slow start for win at Moore County

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Moore County Raiderettes 46-39 on the road Tuesday for their 15th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets overcame a slow start on offense to take the lead in the third quarter and held it for the rest of the game as they picked up a victory in the district contest.
The Lady Hornets were held scoreless for most of the opening period with Jocy May hitting a shot with 30 seconds left in the first quarter to get them on the board. Logan McLennan added a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the early point total.
They trailed 10-5 after one quarter.
The Raiderettes scored the first six points of the second quarter to briefly take a double-digit lead before the Lady Hornets tightened up the score again. May scored five of Huntland’s seven points in the second quarter.
Huntland trailed 18-12 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets ended the third quarter with 10 straight points as they took the lead for the first time in the contest during that run.
They led 28-23 going into the final period.
The Lady Hornets led by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter as they maintained a steady advantage for the rest of the day and went on to win by seven.
McLennan led the Lady Hornets with 17 points for the game, followed by May with 15 points and Kinsley Kilpatrick with seven.
Aysia Williams scored five points and Morgan Sanders scored two.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 15-7 on the season and 2-0 in district play.
They will next play Saturday at home against Cannon County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
