Rebels falter late in loss at Madison County

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Madison County Tigers 50-49 on the road Tuesday for their 11th loss of the season.

The Rebels led after each quarter and took a 13-point advantage into the final period, but the hosting Tigers rallied to give them a narrow defeat when the final buzzer sounded.

The Rebels got off to a strong offensive start as they held a multiple-possession lead over their opponent early.

They led 18-9 after one quarter.

The second quarter was more even between the two teams with the Rebels adding another point to their early advantage.

They led 26-16 at halftime.

The Rebels continued to hold the Tigers at bay in the third quarter as they appeared to be in full control of the game. Kaleb Rigsby scored seven of Franklin County’s 12 points in the third quarter.

They led 38-25 going into the final period.

However, the Tigers came alive on offense in the fourth quarter as they doubled their point total and pushed past the Rebels before ultimately giving them the loss by a single point.

Rigsby led the Rebels with 14 points for the game, followed by Ethan Stephens with eight points and Sam Vincent with seven.

Ke’Andre Johnson and Kai Baker scored six points each, Kenyon Fuqua scored five, Jacob Sanchez scored two and Willie Cobb scored one.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 7-11 on the season.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Warren County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
