The Franklin County Rebels beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 56-43 on the road Tuesday for their eighth win of the season.

The Rebels built up a sizable lead through the first three quarters and cruised to a victory from there for their first district win of the year.

Both teams got off to strong starts on offense in the opening period with the Rebels staking themselves to an early lead. Kai Baker scored nine of Franklin County’s 18 points in the first quarter.

They led 18-14 after one quarter.

The Rebels added a few more points to their lead in the second quarter as they continued to outpace the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard.

They led 32-24 at halftime.

The third quarter would be the most lopsided of the day as the Rebels more than doubled their advantage behind strong efforts on both ends of the court.

They led 49-30 going into the final period.

The Golden Eagles were able to chip away some of the deficit in the fourth quarters, but the Rebels still maintained a solid lead and went on to win by 13 points.

Baker led the Rebels with 19 points for the game, followed by Kenyon Fuqua with 14 points and Kaleb Rigsby with eight.

Ke’Andre Johnson scored six points, Sam Vincent scored four, Ethan Stephens scored three and Jacob Sanchez scored two.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 8-13 on the season and 1-2 in district play.

They will next play Friday at Warren County High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
