F.C. Democratic Party to host spelling bee

The Franklin County Democratic Party is hosting a spelling bee on Feb 20 for all students and adults.

The spelling bee will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Sewanee Community Center, located at 39 Ball Park Road in Sewanee. The event will include three categories, one for lower elementary students followed by upper elementary and middle school students and the American-history bee for adults or ambitious students.

Students will be spelling from lists that are grade-appropriate for them. Those who wish to study may google generic spelling-bee lists.

Signups will be held at 5:45 p.m. on the night of the event. The public is welcome to attend and watch while enjoying a free all-you-can-eat soup, sandwich and salad buffet.

Cash prizes include $50 for the top winners in the lower elementary and upper elementary or middle school categories. The winner of the American-history bee will earn dinner for two at the Fiesta Grill in Cowan.
