Rebels top Shelbyville in home district matchup

The Franklin County Rebels beat the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 58-45 at home Friday for their 11th win of the season.

The Rebels opened up a decent lead in the opening period and built on it over the course of the district contest as they picked up their fourth straight victory.

The Rebels started the game with a 12-1 run to immediately establish control of the scoreboard.

They led 18-11 after one quarter.

The Rebels doubled their lead in the second quarter as they continued to outpace the Golden Eagles in the early moments of the contest. Kai Baker scored nine of Franklin County’s 16 points in the second quarter.

They led 34-20 at halftime.

The Rebels maintained a steady advantage throughout the third quarter and added a few more points to the deficit before the period ended.

They led 46-28 going into the final period.

The Rebels did all of their scoring in the fourth quarter from the free-throw line as they conceded some ground on the scoreboard before putting the final margin of victory at 13.

Baker and Sam Vincent led the Rebels with 15 points each for the game, followed by Kenyon Fuqua with nine points and Ke’Andre Johnson with eight.

Jacob Sanchez scored four points, Kaleb Rigsby scored three, and Aydin Horton and Ethan Stephens scored two points each.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 11-13 on the season and 4-2 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Cascade High School. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
