Lady Hornets outpace Eagleville for home district win

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Eagleville Lady Eagles 60-41 at home Tuesday for their 19th win of the season.
The Lady Hornets carried a slight lead into the halftime break and pulled away in the second half to keep their district record above .500 as they ended their regular-season schedule.
There were five ties and a pair of lead changes in the opening period with a pair of free throws from Jocy May giving the Lady Hornets a lead in the closing seconds of the quarter.
They led 18-16 after one quarter.
The Lady Eagles scored the first eight points of the second quarter to take the lead, but the Lady Hornets answered back with a 10-3 run to jump back in front.
Huntland led 28-27 at halftime.
The Lady Hornets ended the third quarter on a 16-5 run to bring the deficit up to double digits for the rest of the contest.
They led 48-35 going into the final period.
The Lady Hornets added a few more points to their sizable lead in the fourth quarter as they easily finished off the 19-point victory. Logan McLennan scored 10 of Huntland’s 12 points in the fourth quarter.
McLennan led the Lady Hornets with 22 points for the game, followed by May with 13 points and Yareli Avalos with 10.
Ashtyn Danley and Aysia Williams scored six points each and Kinsley Kilpatrick scored three.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 19-11 on the season and 5-3 in district play.
They will next play in the District 9A tournament next week at Cornersville High School. A schedule for the tournament had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
