F.C. Farm Bureau holds annual meeting
The Franklin County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting on Feb. 25 at Decherd First Baptist Church.
Approximately 120 people were in attendance, including the Franklin County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Farm Bureau members and their families as well as State Sen. Janice Bowling, State Rep. Iris Rudder, Farm Bureau District Director Travis Tilley and Farm Bureau Vice President James Haskew.
Guest speaker Claire Getty, CFO of Thompson Appalachian Hardwoods, presented information about the family-owned business and how it relates to agriculture.
The Franklin County Farm Bureau’s 2023 fifth-grade essay contest winners were announced. The theme of the contest was “Why is Agriculture Important?”
The first-place winner was Makayla Stewart from Huntland School. Her essay will be entered into the state competition. Makayla’s teacher is Karlee Davis.
The second-place winner was Abby Repass from Broadview Elementary. Her teachers are Melissa Gilliam and Annette Johnson.
The third-place winner was Bella Curtis from Clark Memorial Elementary. Her teacher is Wendy Concha-Beira.
The evening concluded after many door prizes were given away.
