Middle school Hornets drop road contest to Moore County

The Huntland Middle School Hornets lost to the Moore County Raiders 14-4 on the road Tuesday for their fourth loss of the season.
The Raiders scored 12 total runs across the second and third innings to quickly pull away as the Hornets were not able to match their scoring pace.
The Raiders got their scoring started by pushing one run across in the bottom of the first.
The Hornets were able to answer back early with an RBI double by Eli Fitch tying the score at 1-1 in the top of the second, but the Raiders then scored five in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-1 lead.
The Raiders put up another seven runs in the bottom of the third with the assistance of a few Huntland errors to take a 13-1 lead early in the contest.
Facing a 12-run deficit going into the top of the fifth, the Hornets temporarily avoided the mercy rule as Bryant Mooney hit an RBI single and Braydon Fanning added a two-run double to put the score at 13-4.
However, the Raiders scored the one run they needed to clinch the victory in the bottom of the fifth as the Hornets lost by an even 10 runs.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 0-4 on the season.
They will next play Thursday at home against Forrest Middle School. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
