Lady Hornets pick up home win versus Blackman

The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Blackman Lady Blaze 7-1 at home Thursday for their third win of the season.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early lead and maintained a steady advantage throughout the contest to beat the Lady Blaze for the second time in as many days.
The Lady Hornets got on the board quickly as Ashtyn Danley scored off of an error on a ball hit by DeAnna Burton in the bottom of the first, and Hazel Reed drew a bases-loaded walk later in the frame to make it a 2-0 game early.
Hadley Gardner hit an RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the second to tack on another run and put the early lead at 3-0.
The deficit remained at three runs until the bottom of the fifth when Blair Finchum came through with a two-out RBI single to give Huntland a 4-0 advantage.
The Lady Blaze broke through for their only run of the day in the top of the sixth as an RBI single with two outs in the frame made it a 4-1 game.
However, the Lady Hornets answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth as Burton hit a two-run single and later came around to score on an error off of a ball hit by Camerin Davis.
The Lady Blaze’s batters were retired in order in the top of the seventh as the Lady Hornets easily wrapped up the six-run win.
Danley pitched a complete game for the Lady Hornets with six strikeouts, three hits and one unearned run allowed for the day.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 3-0 on the season.
They will next play Monday at home against Cornersville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
