Rebels fall to Coffee County in home district matchup

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Coffee County Raiders 11-0 at home Monday for their second loss of the season.

The Rebels were limited to one total hit for the day, and the Raiders pulled away in the fifth inning of the district contest.

The Raiders loaded the bases in the top of the first inning and threatened to score early before the Rebels got out of the jam with an inning-ending groundout.

The Rebels got a baserunner into scoring position as well in the bottom of the first when Sam Vincent reached first base on a dropped third strike and moved to second on a Payton Miller groundout, but Vincent wouldn’t be able to move up any farther before the inning came to an end.

After four scoreless innings on both sides, the Raiders broke through for nine runs in the top of the fifth to put the Rebels in a deep hole.

The Raiders tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to grow the deficit to double digits late.

Miller broke up the no-hitter with a single to lead off the bottom of the seventh, but the next three Franklin County batters struck out to wrap up the 11-run loss.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at Coffee County Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
