The Huntland High School Lady Hornets lost to the Coffee County Lady Raiders 13-7 at home Tuesday for their first loss of the season.

The Lady Raiders pulled away in the middle innings with the Lady Hornets not being able to catch up for the rest of the day.

The Lady Raiders took advantage of a few Huntland errors to score five runs in the top of the second to take an early lead.

The Lady Hornets responded quickly in the bottom of the second as Ashtyn Danley hit a three-run triple to get them on the board.

Following a walk drawn by Hadley Gardner, Danley stole home as part of a successful double steal, and Gardner came in to score a few pitches later on an RBI groundout by DeAnna Burton to tie the score at 5-5.

However, the Lady Raiders scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to put the Lady Hornets in an 11-5 hole.

The Lady Hornets chipped away some of the deficit in the bottom of the fourth as RBI singles by Gardner and Burton made it a four-run game, but the Lady Raiders got those two runs back in the top of the fifth with a home run to push the deficit back up to six.

The Lady Hornets weren’t able to score in the last three innings as they lost by six.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets moved to 4-1 on the season.

They will next play Friday in a pair of games for the New Hope Classic at the recreation center in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. First pitch for their first game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
