The Huntland High School Hornets beat the Community Vikings 18-1 at home Friday for their second win of the season.

The Hornets scored multiple runs in every inning as they cruised to a blowout victory in five innings.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as Blaine Counts hit an RBI single and Evan Keller scored on a passed ball.

A total of five Huntland runs would be scored in the bottom of the second with Caydon Bradford, Trace Morris and Keller hitting RBI singles for one run each and additional runs scoring off of errors on balls hit by Landon Kerr and Alex Meyerring to make it a 7-0 game.

The Hornets put up another five runs in the bottom of the third as Keller drew a walk with the bases loaded, Counts hit into an RBI groundout and Morris, Keller and Kerr each scored on passed balls to grow their advantage up to 12-0.

The Vikings got on the board in the top of the fourth with an RBI fielder’s choice cutting away a small portion of Huntland’s lead.

However, the Hornets continued to pull further away in the bottom half of the fourth as a two-run single by Counts negated the Community run, and an RBI single by Kerr, a sacrifice fly by Matthew Dickson, an RBI double by Bradford and a passed ball that allowed Meyerring to score gave the Hornets their last six runs for the contest.

The Hornets didn’t allow any runs in the top of the fifth as they picked up the win by a final margin of 17.

Eli Wiggs got the win on the mound for the Hornets after pitching the first four innings with four strikeouts, six hits and one run allowed.

Dickson pitched the final inning in relief with two strikeouts, one hit and no runs allowed.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 2-3 on the season.

They will next play Monday at home against Moore County High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
