Enter the Edible Books Festival Monday in Sewanee
Sewanee’s Jessie Ball duPont Library will celebrate the International Edible Books Festival with a contest on Monday.
The Edible Books Festival is where the worlds of books and food collide in creative and delicious ways. The event is free and is sponsored by The Friends of the Library, Sewanee Dining and Library and Information Technology Services. Everyone is welcome to enter their edible book or just come and view the creative displays.
Simply create an edible work of art that represents a book or something about a book, perhaps inspired by a favorite book or author.
Be sure to have fun with puns, or create something in the actual shape of a book. Each entry should be designed from something edible such as cakes, crackers, gelatin, candy, vegetables, fruits, bread or other foods as long as it can be displayed for a few hours without spoiling or melting.
The possibilities are endless. Past entries have included “The Princess and the Pea,” “The Hunger Games,” “A Farewell to Arms,” and “The Hungry Caterpillar,” among other literary greats.
The festival has several special categories for judging including: puniest, best children’s book, people’s choice, best team entry, best professional entry, best youth/children entry and best local theme.
All entries will be photographed and added to the duPont Library’s social media pages.
Entries will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A reception will take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the main lobby of the Library, located at 178 Georgia Ave. in Sewanee.
Details and free registration for entries can be found at library.sewanee.edu/ediblebooks. Pinterest users may want to explore the following board for edible book ideas and a look at past entries from previous years – pinterest.com/penelk/edible-book-ideas/
