April 1

Bluebird seminar

Everyone is invited to a free bluebird seminar to learn all about theses fascinating birds on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tims Ford State Park Visitor Center with speaker Reeda Best.

BBQ fundraiser & auction

A barbecue supper fundraiser and live auction will be held Saturday from 6-9 p.m. in Kennerly Hall behind St. Marks and St. Pauls Church (formerly Otey Parrish) across from Sewanee Elementary School in Sewanee. Barbecue plates (barbecue, slaw, baked beans, desserts and drink) are $10. Takeout will also be available. All proceeds will go toward the purchase of tables, chairs and kitchen equipment for Crow Creek Valley Community Center’s new building.

Community egg hunt

A community Easter egg hunt, hosted by the Estill Springs Nazarene Church, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Estill Springs Park featuring 300 prizes. Enjoy a free lunch along with door prizes. Everyone is welcome.

Chili supper/silent auction

A chili supper benefit will be held for police officer Dustin Pate on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Capitol Hill Community Center, 5601 AEDC Road, Estill Springs. Cost is $10 for chili, dessert and drink. A silent auction will be held also. Proceeds will assist Pate’s family with medical expenses associated with a kidney transplant. Donations may also be made by Venmo to @BrittanyPate.

Decherd Potato Festival

The Decherd Potato Festival will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 200 East Main St., Decherd, featuring a parade, bands, a seed swap, axe-throwing, a kids zone, a recipe contest, food trucks, a silent auction and vendors. Visit the event’s Facebook page.

70s dance

A 70s dance will be held at the Franklin County Senior Center, 74 Clover Dr., Winchester, on Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $5. Wear your 70’s attire. The public is welcome to attend.

First Saturdays

First Saturdays kicks off for the season on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with vendors selling their wares around the Fayetteville downtown square.

preschool registration

Franklin County preschool applications will be accepted Tuesday from 1-5 p.m. at the school that parents wish their child to attend in the 2023-24 school year. The child must be 4 years old by Aug. 15 to apply. Bring a birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record and current physical report, proof of residency (utility bill, rent receipt, etc.), proof of income (2022 W-2’s or tax return preferred or last three consecutive pay stubs showing gross income or letter of food-stamp proof.) Pet Wellness & Awareness Fair

A Pet Wellness and Awareness Fair will be held on April 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Animal Harbor, 56 Nor-Nan Road, Winchester. Cost to spay and neuter is $20 and rabies shots are $5 (services not performed on site). Free canine and feline vaccines, free pet pantry food by need, free education and more. Mountain Goat Trail Race

Kindergarten registration

Franklin County kindergarten registration will be held on April 13 from 1-5 p.m. at the school the child is zoned to attend during the 2023-24 school year. A child must reach age 5 by Aug. 15 to enroll for the fall. Bring a birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record and physician’s physical report and proof of residency. The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Expo and Marketplace on April 13 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Monterey Station, located at 104 Monterey St. in Cowan. The public is invited. Fish fry

The Broadview Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser fish fry on April 15 from 1-5 p.m. at the fire station, located at 5253 Lynchburg Road, Winchester. Plates include fish, fries, chicken, beans, slaw, hush puppies, dessert and drinks. Cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and younger are free. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 for their 50/50 raffle drawing.

Night in Little Italy

The Decherd Knights of Columbus will host their famous Night in Little Italy spaghetti dinner on April 15 from 5-7 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Church Parish Center, 2037 Decherd Blvd., Decherd. The dinner will be served on china plates and will include spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, drinks and homemade desserts. Adult tickets are $10 and children younger than 12 are $5. All are welcome to eat in or take out.

F.C. Historical Society

The Franklin County Historical Society’s spring meeting will be held on April 16 at 2 p.m. at the Walker Farm, 1942 Greasy Cove Road, Huntland. The presentation will include a history of the house built in 1905 by John Rich and two VanZandt men from Salem who moved to Texas and became famous. This will be followed by the history of the cowboy and cowgirl in American, how Tennessee played a role in that and how a company in Franklin County still plays a vital role today. Everyone is welcome.

Motlow performance

The performance of “Chicago” will be held April 20-22 at 7 p.m. at Motlow College. Tickets are $12 each or $6 for students with a Motlow ID at the door.

Secrets of the Garden

Ride for Rev

The second annual memorial Ride for Rev in remembrance of J.T. “Rev” Steele will be held on April 22 with registration from 9-10 a.m. at the VFW, located at 6200 AEDC Road, Estill Springs. The ride starts at 10 a.m. and will end at Daddy Billy’s, 119 NW Atlantic St., Tullahoma. Registration is $20 per bike or $25 with a rider. Rain date is May 13. Proceeds go to local charities. Fish fry

The Belvidere Firemen’s fish fry will be held on April 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring all-you-can-eat at the Belvidere Community Center, 349 Belvidere Road, Belvidere. The event will be held indoors and will include fish, barbecue chicken, chicken strips, hushpuppies, fries, baked beans, slaw, drinks and homemade desserts. Cost is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12 and free for ages 3 and younger.
