The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Fairview Lady Jackets 6-3 at Crockett Park Friday in their second game for the Brentwood Invitational.

The Rebelettes took an early lead in the contest, but the Lady jackets tied the score shortly afterward and pulled ahead in the later innings before the 75-minute time limit for the tournament contest expired.

The Rebelettes loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with Natalie Hagood hitting a bases-clearing triple to give Franklin County a quick 3-0 lead.

However, the Lady Jackets responded quickly with three runs in the top of the second to tie the score early.

The tie would be broken in the top of the fourth on a two-out, two-run single by the Lady Jackets to put Franklin County in a 5-3 hole.

The Lady Jackets added one more run in the top of the fifth, and the Rebelettes were retired in order in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest.

Hagood pitched a complete game for the Rebelettes with one strikeout, nine hits and six runs allowed.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-11 on the season.

Blackman 8, Rebelettes 4

The Rebelettes lost to the Blackman Lady Blaze 8-4 at Crockett Park Friday in their first game for the Brentwood Invitational.

The score was kept close for the first few innings with the Lady Blaze pulling away in the top of the fourth, and the Rebelettes didn’t have enough time to mount a comeback.

The Rebelettes got their first run in the bottom of the first as Paislie Edge drew a leadoff walk, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then raced home on another wild pitch moments later to give Franklin County an early 1-0 lead.

The Lady Blaze were able to tie the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the third after being held hitless for the first 2 2-3 innings.

The Lady Blaze broke the game open with six runs in the top of the fourth to put the Rebelettes in a decent hole as the end of the time limit drew near. Another Blackman run came in to score off of an error in the top of the fifth to make it an 8-1 game late.

The Rebelettes attempted to rally in the bottom of the fifth as Emma Owens hit a two-run double and later crossed home plate herself after Kaitlyn Montgomery hit into an RBI groundout, but that would be it for their offense as they lost by four.

Miley DeSmet pitched the first four innings for the Rebelettes with six hits, five earned runs and two unearned runs allowed.

Kaylee Morris pitched the final inning in relief with no hits and one unearned run allowed.

With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 1-10 on the season.

Franklin County head softball coach Kelly Kennedy said that while the results from Friday’s games weren’t what her team was hoping for, she saw plenty of positives in how her team performed in both contests.

“Overall, I think that’s the best we’ve looked in the last couple of weeks. We started to put the bat on the ball. We made some defensive plays that we haven’t seen them make in a couple of weeks,” she said. “While we walked away with two losses in the book, I think it was really a win in our column, and I think we’re moving in a positive direction.”

They will next play Saturday against Stone Memorial High School at Crockett Park in their third and final pool game for the Brentwood Invitational. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. with games for a single-elimination bracket to follow in the afternoon.
