The Huntland High School Lady Hornets beat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 6-0 on the road Tuesday for their ninth win of the season.
The Lady Hornets took an early lead and expanded on it in the fifth and sixth innings while Huntland pitcher Ashtyn Danley shut down the Lady Bulldogs for the entire contest.
Danley led off the game on offense with a single, stole second and moved to third on an error before Hadley Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to bring her across home plate for the first run of the day.
The score remained at 1-0 until the top of the fifth when Gardner hit an RBI double to score Danley from first base. An RBI groundout hit by DeAnna Burton and an RBI double by Jocy May later in the frame boosted the lead up to 4-0.
The Lady Hornets added another two runs to their advantage in the top of the sixth as Kinsley Kilpatrick and Danley both scored off of an error following a two-out single by Gardner.
The Lady Bulldogs had runners in scoring position in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, but Danley was able to preserve the shutout each time, and she retired the last nine batters she faced to clinch the win by six.
Danley ended her complete-game shutout with 12 strikeouts and two hits allowed.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improved to 9-4 on the season and 3-1 in district play.
They will next play Tuesday at home against Eagleville High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
