Rebels fall to Coffee County in home district matchup

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Coffee County Raiders 11-0 at home Tuesday for their eighth loss of the season.

The Rebels fell behind early and weren’t able to find their offensive footing throughout the contest as their record for the year moved to an even .500.

The Raiders got their scoring started with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, and they added another five runs in the top of the second to put the Rebels in a 7-0 hole.

The Rebels loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the second on a single by Gus Gardner and walks drawn by Wyatt Lowe and Graysen McNeese, but a popout and a strikeout ended the frame before any of the runners could score.

The Raiders tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth to make it a nine-run game at the contest’s midway point.

The Rebels had another bases-loaded opportunity in the bottom half of the fourth when Lowe walked, Gavin Sells doubled and Caden Brown walked, but they were once again unable to push any runs across.

The Raiders scored their last two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run from their leadoff batter, and the Rebels weren’t able to answer back in the bottom of the fifth as the game ended early via the mercy rule.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 8-8 on the season and 3-5 in district play.

They will next play Friday at home against Wilson Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
