Rebels take road district loss to Shelbyville

The Franklin County Rebels lost to the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles 10-6 on the road Monday for their 10th loss of the season.

The Rebels faced a sizable deficit for a majority of the contest with an attempted rally in the last few innings coming up short in the district loss.

The Rebels had their first three batters for the game reach base as Sam Vincent hit a leadoff double followed by Austin Roberts and Gus Gardner drawing walks.

However, a fielder’s choice resulted in Vincent being forced out at home, and the next two batters struck out to end the scoring threat.

The Golden Eagles then scored four runs in the bottom half of the first to put the Rebels in a decent hole early.

The Golden Eagles added one run each in the second, third and fourth innings to bring the deficit up to 7-0 as the game passed its midway point.

The Rebels got on the board in the top of the fifth as Wyatt Lowe hit a leadoff triple and came in to score on an RBI groundout by Gavin Sells.

The Rebels got their offense rolling with five runs in the top of the sixth as Brayden Henley got the scoring started in the frame with an RBI double, and Payton Miller followed with a sacrifice fly to score Talon Abraham from third base.

After Lowe and Graysen McNeese singled to join Henley on the basepaths, Jacob Hardison drew a bases-loaded walk, and Vincent hit a two-run single to make it a one-run game at 7-6.

However, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull back ahead by a decent amount, and the Rebels were retired in order in the top of the seventh to seal the loss by four.

With the loss, the Rebels moved to 9-10 on the season and 3-6 in district play.

They will next play Tuesday at home against Shelbyville Central High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
