NANCY BROWN
BROWN, Nancy Sue Shaver, age 86, of Decherd, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at her residence while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Saltillo, Mississippi, on June 8, 1936, to the late Robert A. and Avanell Thornley Shaver. Before her retirement, she worked in administration for the Franklin County Board of Education. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music and playing bridge. But most of all, she enjoyed taking care of others, especially her beloved family and friends whom she loved to cook for. Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church of Winchester. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Brown. Nancy is survived by her loving sons, Mark A. (Cindy) Brown of Murfreesboro, and Howard T. Brown of Greenbriar; grandchildren, Heather (Barton) Taylor, Jordan T. (Tasha) Brown and Courtney (Adam) Williams; and sister, Martha Jo Taylor of Dallas. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. BRANCH, Alta Mae, 62, of Manchester, died on April 20, 2023. JOAN JUDGE
JUDGE, Joan Dolly Hallen, age 90, of Tullahoma, Tennessee, formerly of Riverdale, Illinois, departed this life on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Morning Pointe of Tullahoma, following an extended illness. Ms. Judge was born in Chicago, Illinois, on Feb. 23, 1933, to the late Hanley Hallen and Elenore Catherine Bowman Hallen. She was a homemaker. Ms. Judge was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in South Holland, Illinois. She was a 50-plus year member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dolton, Illinois, where she served for 45 years as the Sunday school director and also served on the altar guild. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramics and gardening during her earlier years in her spare time of raising nine children. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who adored her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, William F. Kunz and James O. Judge. She is survived by her children, William (Kathy) Kunz of Palos Heights, Illinois, Barbara (Phil) Morgan of Manchester, Tennessee, Sharon (Joe) Balazs of Winchester, Tennessee, Brian Judge of Highland, Indiana, Michael (Liz) Judge of Acworth, Georgia, Donna (Ed) Brown of Schererville, Indiana, Debra (Ron) Schowengerdt of Atlantic Mine, Michigan, Marlene (Bob) Cupp of Frankfort, Illinois, and Linda Rakowiecki of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sisters, Catherine Hallen of Chicago Heights, Illinois, Carolyn Hallen of North Aurora, Illinois, and Rin’a Keasler of Posen, Illinois; 17-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren plus two on the way. A chapel service was held at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery & Mausoleum in Alsip, Illinois, on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m. where Ms. Judge was laid to rest by her late husbands. BROWN, Shelyon Fontina, or as all who loved her knew as “Cody,” departed peacefully from us on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at age 50. Cody was profoundly beloved and cherished by all who were blessed to know and meet her. She was a mother, daughter, sister and friend who loved life! Cody enjoyed cooking, playing music and singing along, loving on her kids and family and driving with her spouse of over 25 years, Garry Taylor. She is survived by Garry; her three children, Camron, Joshua and Shakera; her cherished grandchild, Kenneth, parents, James and Sheila Brown (Staples) from Winchester; brother and sister-in-law James Jr. (Junie) and Wendy Brown; beloved nephew and niece, Avery and Olivia Brown; among a host of Brown, Staples, Taylor extended family who will miss her bright spirit, love and laughter. Cody Brown was a graduate of Franklin County High School (1990), where she loved home-economics class, sewing, cooking and cutting up with her friends. While growing up she loved to play with cousins and uncles in her native Belvidere, Tennessee, chasing and petting animals (who sometimes did not appreciate being petted), as well as protecting anyone she considered family or friend. Another favorite pastime of Cody’s was to go for a drive or ride with loved ones and “bump” her favorite music and enjoy the beautiful Tennessee countryside. Cody was one of a kind and will be missed by all who loved her. She lived life on her own terms and loved her children, family and pets with every fiber of her being. The family would like to thank everyone for their comforting words, prayers and actions during this time. MCCOLLOCH, James Thomas, age 92, of Viola, Tennessee, died on Thursday, April 20, 2023, while surrounded by family. He was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Morrison, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by parents, Samuel Thomas and Mary Henley McColloch; wife, Earline Woodall McColloch; and sisters, Sarah McColloch, Amanda Sanders, Margaret McColloch and Mary Helen McColloch. Mr. McColloch was an all-star football player and vice-president of his senior class at Central High School, was an avid rook player, enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of the Viola Fire Department, and was active in all Viola Valley Community events. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Layne and Jon Utz; sons, and daughters-in-law, Tom and Pam McColloch and David and Stefanie McColloch; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Peggie McColloch; sister-in-law, Betty Woodall; grandchildren, Noah Utz and fiancé, Julia Hester, Matt (Chancery) McColloch, Micah (Fran) McColloch, Merek (Alexis) McColloch, Ryan McColloch and Haley McColloch; great-grandchildren, Perry Grae McColloch, Collie McColloch, Rhodes McColloch, Wake McColloch and Caney McColloch; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends. GREEN, Anthony “Tony” Todd, age 54, of Winchester, Tennessee, departed this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at STRHS-Winchester following years of heart failure. Mr. Green was born in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on Aug. 25, 1968, to Nancy Luttrell Green and the late Ray Green. He was a 1986 graduate of Fergus Falls High School in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed riding his Dina and Sportster Harley Davidson motorcycles and would often ride with the Punisher LEMC Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed kayaking and visiting the Gulf Coast. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a very “selfless” person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his niece, Amy Cobb. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Cursi and husband, Andrew of Finleyville, Pennsylvania; mother, Nancy Green of Estill Springs, Tennessee; granddaughters, Lilyonna and Presley Cursi; siblings, Vickie (Dale) Cobb of Estill Springs, April Taylor of Tullahoma, and Lommon (Brandy) Green of Winchester; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. DONNA KELLEY
KELLEY, Donna Jean, age 68, of Belvidere, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital facility in Winchester. She was born in Oak Ridge on May 20, 1954. Donna worked as a bookkeeper for XP Services and Hero Gear. When she was not working, you would find her reading, playing with her cats and collecting crystals. Donna was a member of Covenant Christian Church in Belvidere, where she was the song leader. She will be remembered for her strong will and independence. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Attkisson and brother, Hal White. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Patrick Kelley; son, Jason (Anna) Rossi; brother, Jamie (Kelly) White; step-daughters, Kiki Bozeman and Kayla Kelley; step-son, Sean (Cheryl) Kelley; six step-grandchildren; and two cats. TOMMY COGIL
COGIL, Tommy Allen, age 80, of Decherd, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, on May 2, 1942, to the late Clifford and Lois (Stewart) Cogil. Before his retirement, he was employed as a realtor. An avid NRA supporter, he enjoyed skeet shooting and hunting in the great outdoors. He had been a stock car racecar driver in his younger years. After retirement, he and his wife were full-time RV’ers for seven years. Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Renee Cogil; children, Tanya (Kevin) Simmons of Kansas, Scott (Samantha) Cogil of Virginia, and Lisa Quick of Kansas; step-children, Toby Levin of New Mexicio, and Madeline (Luis Jimenez-Maroto) of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren; and brother, Gary (Adrienne) Cogil of Las Vegas, Nevada. FLOYD, Lois Ann Bass, age 85, of Decherd, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, in Fayetteville. She was born on March 3, 1938, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bass. Alongside her husband George, they owned and operated George Floyd Paint Center for many years. When she was not working, you could find her gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lois was a member of the Winchester Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bass; husband, George Wesley Floyd Jr.; sons, Ricky Floyd and Tracy Floyd; brother, Buddy Bass; and sister, Bettye Floyd. She is survived by her son, David (Denise) Floyd; grandchildren, Tara Hatchett, Jeremy (Patricia) Floyd and Jacob (Kristen) Floyd; and great-grandsons, Trace Floyd and Parker Floyd.
