New member art show opens in Cowan – Reception Friday

The Franklin County Arts Guild is happy to announce the opening of its new member show at the Artisan Depot, located at 204 Cumberland St in Cowan.

The show, “Yearning and Yielding to the Green,” is on exhibit now through July 2, featuring the work of artist Tanya Ingvoldstad Otero of Winchester.

This lifelong creative and artsy dabbler says she thrives surrounded by the natural world and the diverse human community.

Everyone is invited to the gallery’s third Friday reception on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

In addition to lovely art, the reception will feature gentle, ambient, experimental electronic music presented by Belly Full of Stars’ Kim Rueger, Michael Hix, and Linda Heck (solo identity Infanta Silhouette).

Hix plays synthesizers and is the lead composer for the Nashville Ambient Ensemble which includes keyboardist Rueger who is a frequently featured artist at Heck’s Electric Arcadia studio in Sewanee.

Art lovers may stop by Artisan Depot during regular hours each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. To learn more, visit www.franklincoarts.weebly.com.

About the artist

Otero enjoys weaving images from nature and feminine figures into her art. Recently, her dog, Irie, has also become a subject.

While focusing primarily on acrylics, she also enjoys experimenting with mixed media.

“The process of creating art allows me to play with yielding and yearning,” Otero explains. “One of my life’s lessons has been to yield and let go. I am growing into a new kind of yielding, one of releasing into creation and connection, the Green. This is my yearning.”

More important than the finished pieces, Otero says, is the gladness that creating art gives her.
