JAMES NEWSOM

 NEWSOM, James William, age 40, of Hillsboro, died May 23, 2023. Survivors: children, Austin Brown, Jeremy Brown, Matthew Brown; siblings, Wanda Brown, Sandy Baltimore; niece, Rachael Rollins; nephews, Randall Rollins Jr., Justin Baker.  Services were held May 27, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Interment was at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

 

 JOE LEESER

 LEESER, Joe, age 80, of Estill Springs, passed away at home on Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023.  He was born on Jan. 24, 1943, to Beatrice (Brown) Leeser. He was a 1961 graduate of Franklin County High School. He enjoyed his high school days, especially playing sports (football, baseball and basketball). Before retirement, he worked at AEDC for almost 26 years. He married his long-time sweetheart, Martha Massey Housley in 2005. In Joe’s spare time, you could find him working on his farm, studying coins, or spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will always be lovingly remembered as Papa Joe. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Massey) Leeser; sons, Shay (Lori) Housley and Shad (Richelle) Housley; grandchildren, Katy Housley (Andrew) Flautt, Luke Housley, Colton Housley, Kyla Pearson and Lane Pearson; and great-grandchildren, A. William Flautt, Jr., Declan Flautt and Marthafaye Flautt; aunt, Peggy Brown; and several cousins. Visitation was held on Friday, May 26, 2023, from noon to 3 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home followed by services at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Interment was at Green Cemetery. RUBIE GATTIS

 GATTIS, Rubie Lee, age 82, of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Elk River Health Care Center.  She was born in Beech Grove (Bedford County) on June 20, 1940, to the late S.P. and Pearl (Finney) Floyd.  Before her retirement, she had been employed as a correction officer at the Tennessee Correction Academy.  In her younger years, she enjoyed playing basketball and was an avid life-long reader.  But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Gattis; son, Charles Albert Martin; and siblings, Jessie Clark Floyd, Annie Dee Rutledge and Billy Joe Floyd.  Rubie Lee is survived by her loving daughter, Glenda Lee Wiseman of Winchester; granddaughter, Tiffany Wiseman St. Jean of Canada; grandson, Tony Martin of Murfreesboro; great-grandson, Alexander St. Jean of Canada; siblings, Linda Floyd Bogard of Manchester, Clifton Floyd of Chapel Hill, David (Dora) Floyd of Shelbyville, and Brenda Faye Floyd (Rick) Overcast of Shelbyville; sister-in-law, Linda Floyd of Shelbyville; special great-nephew, Zane Reid; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home followed by services at 2 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. WILMA BARTEK

 BARTEK, Wilma Ruth Arledge, age 90, passed away at her Winchester home in the presence of loved ones on Sunday, May 28, 2023.  Ruth was born on April 15, 1933, in Decherd, to William Thomas and Hazel Elizabeth (Beene) Arledge.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Vaughn Arledge; and sisters, Dorothy Modena and Jean Dunn. Her husband of 64 years, Thomas William Bartek, passed away on June 30, 2017.  Surviving are their daughter, Deana (Randall) Trail of Winchester; granddaughter, Amber (Josh) Skidmore of Tullahoma; three great-grandsons, Isiah, Adin and Asher Skidmore of Tullahoma; sisters, Ann Powell and Dale (Barry) Stewart, both of Winchester; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine friend, Charlie. Ruth and Tom enjoyed traveling and his military career (USAF) assignments enabled them to reside in several states plus Germany and England.  After his retirement, the family moved to Winchester.  They traveled around the country in their RV visiting many places.  They, along with their daughter and an English couple, also took a one-year trip abroad revisiting/visiting numerous countries. Ruth was employed as a secretary at AEDC for 17 years.  She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter and great-grandsons.  She was a member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a 1951 graduate of FCHS. Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. and will also be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 11 a.m. to noon at Watson Funeral Home in Winchester with services following at noon in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Michael Clark officiating.  Interment will follow at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd.
