The City Council has approved Cowan’s 2024 fiscal year budget with no property tax increase and no opposition.

The tax rate will remain at 96 cents per $100 in property valuation. That means the taxes on a $100,000 home will remain at $240 annually.

The budget totals $5.4 million with the general fund at $1.49 million. The major general-fund expenditures include $403,400 for general government operations, $365,864 for the Police Department and $132,650 for the Street Department.

The volunteer fire fund totals $142,766, and the Water and Sewer Department’s budget totals $727,600.
