Empty the shelters
The Bissell Pet Foundation has teamed up with MetLife Pet Insurance brings an Empty the Shelters event for reduced pet-adoption fees to Animal Harbor, located at 56 Nor-Nan Road, Winchester, where adoption fees are $50 or less now through July 31. Food distribution
A commodity food distribution for Franklin County residents only will be held today from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion, 1041 Wilton Circle, Winchester. For information, call 931-967-1438.
F.C. Federated Republican Women
Franklin County Federated Republican Women meet today at 11 a.m. at Merle’s Restaurant, 632 David Crockett Hwy., Winchester, with guest speakers Barbara Lucas and Steve Cagley.

Meet the artist
A photography show by photographer MarthaLee McCarthy is on view now through Aug. 27 at the Artisan Depot, 204 Cumberland St. in Cowan. A meet-the-artist reception is Friday from 5-7 p.m.
Friday Nights in the Park
Friday Nights in the Park will feature free live music on Friday at 6 p.m. in Sewanee’s Angel Park located in the heart of Sewanee, featuring Towson Engsberg. This event is family-friendly.
Sobriety checkpoint
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will hold a sobriety checkpoint on Friday at 9 p.m. at Awalt and Mansford roads.

KOOL Club fish fry
The KOOL (Knowledge, Opportunity, Optimism and Leadership) Club will hold a fundraiser fish fry for the public on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. at 215 Johnson Lane in Tullahoma. All proceeds go to the Kenneth Toney Scholarship Award, MTSU. For information, call 423-544-2890.
Stuff the Bus
Everyone is urged drop off school supplies Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during United Way of Franklin County’s “Stuff the Bus” event at Walmart in Winchester.
Sobriety checkpoints
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will conduct sobriety checkpoints on Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight at Tullahoma Highway in the area of UT Farm Road, Old Tullahoma Road in front of North Lake Elementary and Highway 41A.

Unity on the Yard
The Franklin County School System will hold Unity on the Yard on July 27 on the yard of the Franklin County Board of Education, 215 S. College St., Winchester. This event is for students and their families prior to the start of the 2023-24 school year. Enjoy fun, food and activities.

South Central Human Resource Budget, Audit, Appropriations, Property and Personnel committees meet at 10 a.m. on July 27 followed by the Governing Board at 11 a.m. at their central office in Fayetteville.
Ice cream social
The Franklin County Republican Party Ladies’ division’s ice cream social is on July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Firefly at Twin Creeks. Bring friends and any candidate running in the August city elections.

Downtown Winchester will hold Christmas in July on July 28 from 6-9:30 p.m. in downtown Winchester. Enjoy music, art, shopping, food and door prizes.

Swiss Heritage Celebration
The public is invited to the annual Grundy County Swiss Heritage Celebration on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stoker-Stampfli Farm Museum on Swiss Colony Cemetery Road in Gruetli-Laager. Vendors are welcome to apply by calling 931-235-3029.

Meet and greet
North Middle School Principal Holly Eslick and other faculty and staff will hold a meet and greet on Aug. 1 from 5-6 p.m. in the school cafeteria for all upcoming sixth-graders and new students.

Hometown Heroes
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office invites everyone to its Hometown Heroes event on Aug. 5 from 4-8 p.m. at the Southern Middle Tennessee Pavilion, 1041 Wilton Circle, Winchester. Meet first responders and see their equipment and enjoy activities including a kid’s zone, a first responders vehicle best-in-show competition, food trucks, a K-9 demonstration, a mock DUI crash and much more.

Beauty pageant
