FC girls soccer trounces Culleoka in preseason contest

The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Culleoka Lady Warriors 8-0 at home Tuesday in a preseason scrimmage.

Franklin County scored early and often to control the pace of the game as the team notched a blowout victory in the exhibition matchup.

Baylor Russell recorded the first goal of the day off of an assist from Carly Smith early in the first half.

Osiris Rodriguez struck for Franklin County’s next goal with Caitlyn Cashion providing an assist to put the early lead at 2-0.

Danika Arellano picked up a goal after deflecting a shot off of a defender, and Cali Banks added to the scoring frenzy with a goal after receiving a pass from Rodriguez.

The final goal of the first half came off of the foot of Russell as her second score of the day brought the advantage for Franklin County up to five.

Franklin County led 5-0 at halftime.

Franklin County focused on giving its backups time to play in the second half with Riley Howell providing the first score of the period with about 20 minutes remaining to make it a 6-0 game.

Gracen Baggett and Audrey Stewart added one goal each to round out the scoring for the day as the final deficit settled at eight.

The FCHS girls soccer team will next play Saturday at home in a playday event. A schedule for the event had not been confirmed at the time of writing.

The team will open its 2023 season on Aug. 15 at Lawrence County High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
