FC girls soccer makes short work of Marshall County

The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Marshall County Tigerettes 9-0 at home Thursday for their second win of the season.

Franklin County needed just 45 minutes of game time to secure the district victory as the mercy rule brought a quick end to the contest early in the second half.

Osiris Rodriguez got the scoring started as she fired a shot into the net early in the first half.

Nyomi Arellano followed with her first goal of the year as a deflected shot found her feet, and she finished the play.

The early lead grew to 3-0 when Danika Arellano found the net with a shot for her first goal of the season.

Sydney Webb picked up her first goal of the campaign after receiving a pass from Abby Phrommala, and Baylor Russell also got her first score in the first half with Caitlyn Cashion providing an assist to put the deficit at 5-0.

The final goal of the first half came just before halftime as Rodriguez hit the ball in with a header off an assist from Sadie Moore for her second goal of the day and her sixth of the season.

Franklin County led 6-0 at halftime.

Franklin County went with a JV lineup for the second half with the offense continuing to produce goals early and often.

Riley Howell started the scoring for the second half as she found the net about a minute after the halftime break had concluded.

Aubrey Smith was the next Franklin County athlete on the board as she fired a long shot into the net for her first goal of the year.

Howell would score her second goal of the contest and of the season shortly after with Aubrey Smith providing the assist to end the game.

With the win, Franklin County improved to 2-0 on the season.

The girls soccer team will next play Friday at home against Coffee County Central High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
