FC girls soccer shuts out Coffee County for home win

The Franklin County High School girls soccer team beat the Coffee County Lady Raiders 5-0 at home Friday for the team’s third win of the season.
Franklin County focused on playing its freshmen and sophomore players in the contest as the team recorded its third shutout victory in the season’s opening week.
Gracen Baggett got the scoring started for Franklin County as she scored a goal off an assist from Cali Banks early in the first half.
Baggett scored again a few minutes later with Karly Neal providing the assist this time to quickly make it a 2-0 game.
Franklin County was awarded a penalty kick with about six minutes remaining in the first half, and Sadie Moore successfully converted the attempt for her first goal of the season as the lead grew to 3-0.
Franklin County led 3-0 at halftime.
Neal provided the next goal for Franklin County as she received a corner kick from Valeria Gomez and knocked the ball into the net for her first score of the year.
Baggett completed her hat trick and rounded out the scoring for Franklin County with about 19 minutes remaining as she scored her third goal of the day and her fourth of the season. Aubrey Smith recorded an assist on the goal.
The Lady Raiders wouldn’t be able to break through for a goal in the time remaining as Franklin County won by five.
With the win, Franklin County improved to 3-0 on the season.
The girls soccer team will next play Tuesday at Mt. Juliet High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
