The Franklin County Rebelettes beat the St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Lady Mountain Lions in five sets on the road Wednesday for their first win of the season.

After dropping the first set, the Rebelettes claimed the next two to take control, and they rebounded from a loss in the fourth set to emerge victorious in the winner-take-all fifth frame.

Franklin County head volleyball coach Herb Horton said that he was pleased with how his team played at the match’s most crucial moments to get into the win column.

“Sometimes it’s kind of like getting a monkey off your back. We’ve been in many matches so far and just haven’t been able to get over the hump. It’s always good, especially on the road, to come and get (a win),” he said.

The Lady Mountain Lions took a 14-6 lead to start the opening set before the Rebelettes went on a 12-4 run to tie the score at 18-18.

However, the Lady Mountain Lions quickly retook the lead and held on to win the first set by a score of 25-20.

The teams traded the lead back and forth multiple times in the second set with the Rebelettes winning the frame by a score of 25-20 to tie the match at 1-1 on the overall scoreboard.

The Rebelettes carried their momentum into the third set as they scored the first seven points of the game and continued to build on their advantage from there for a 25-10 win.

The Rebelettes led 2-1 after three sets.

The Lady Mountain Lions led by as many as six points in the fourth set as they maintained a steady advantage before recording a 25-22 victory in the frame to tie the match at 2-2 and force a decisive fifth set.

The Rebelettes opened up a 7-2 lead to begin the first-to-15 fifth set and held a 14-9 edge later in the frame.

The Lady Mountain Lions staved off a few potential match points from there, but the Rebelettes got the final point they needed for a 15-11 win in the set that also gave them a 3-2 victory overall.

With the win, the Rebelettes improved to 1-4 on the season.

They will next play Thursday at home against Shelbyville Central High School. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
