STEVEN GLASSCO

 GLASSCO, Steven Jude, age 15, of Huntland, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023.  A native of Franklin County, he was born on Sept. 4, 2007, in Winchester. He was currently a student at Huntland High School and in middle school had played football. Jude had a kind and gentle nature that all who knew him loved, and he truly enjoyed helping others as well as taking care of animals.  A true teenager, Jude enjoyed listening to music and playing video games, but he also enjoyed fixing things, swimming and cooking.  He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Jay Thomas Glassco and Juanita Smith Glassco and great-uncle and name’s sake, Steve Earl Glassco.  Jude is survived by his loving mother, Bonnie Glassco; dad, Dace Hinshaw; brother, Carter Lacey; grandparents, Gary Glassco, Kathryn Freeman and Mike LaFevers; aunt, Carrie “Tete” (Issac) Glassco-Johnston, Jessica LaFevers and Mary (Derek) Hane; and cousins, Harper Johnston, Oliver Hane and Kannon LaFevers. SARRA RHODES

RHODES, Sarra “Sally,” Our mother, Sarra “Sally” Rhodes, age 96, of Estill Springs, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023. She was born on April 8, 1927, in Ithaca, New York, to the late Fletcher Howard Woodcock and Sarra Margurite Koch.  She spent most of her youth in Ithaca before moving to Atlanta, Georgia and Ft Myers, Florida. Mother attended college at Ward Belmont College in Nashville, and then Cornell University where she met her husband, Robert P. Rhodes, Jr. They married after graduation in June 1949 and shared 69 years of marriage before he died in 2018. Sally is survived by her two children, Robert P. Rhodes, III of Estill Springs, Tennessee, and Kathryn Rhodes of Brookhaven, Georgia.  After moving to Tullahoma in 1956, Sally never slowed down. While we were in grade school and junior high, she sold Rye Country Classics cashmere clothing to local ladies from her home.  In the 1960 census, she did house-to-house polling. She was part owner of Jae’s Gift Shop in Tullahoma, Tennessee, during the early 1970’s.  While we were attending college, she studied photography at Middle Tennessee State University before opening her own photography business. Sally was a strong and warm-hearted woman who was adored by all who knew her. She had a vibrant personality and was well-liked within her community. She expressed her passion for life and the out-of-doors through many activities. As a youth, she excelled in hunting and fishing and was the Georgia Junior State Trap Shooting Champion in 1940. As an adult she continued to embrace adventure as she participated in activities such as caving, sailing, water skiing, scuba diving, swimming, and until a few years ago, jet skiing. Sally and our father shared a dedication to and love of the South Jackson Performing Arts Center. Sally was involved with writing grants, fund raising and publicity and continued on the operations board as membership chairperson up until the time of her passing. Sally was a strong advocate for women. She helped women see and reach their potential as a Girl Scout leader and as a member of P.E.O. Sally was a long-time member of Shady Grove Garden Club. She loved growing plants, especially Tennessee wildflowers and herbs. She found great joy in sharing cuttings of new plants with friends. As her interests in gardening, birds and conservation bloomed, she developed a certified wildlife habitat in her backyard. Sally was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where she found solace, optimism and strength in her faith. BABY KOA MARTIN-EULER

 BABY KOA NATHANIEL MARTIN-EULER, Baby Koa earned his angel wings on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023, at Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga.  He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Wayne Euler, Barbara Euler, Clyde Jackson McCarson, Anita Woodard, Charles Martin and Jean Minor.  Koa Nathaniel is survived by his loving mother, Alyssa Euler; father, Konner Martin; grandparents, Randy and Virginia Euler and Jeremy and Alicia Martin; great-grandmothers, Nancy McCarson and Linda Martin ; great-grandfathers, Dale Minor and Chris Woodard; aunt, Kaitlyn Euler; and uncle, Bahley Minor.  Services for Koa Nathaniel will be private. SARA LYNNE KING

 KING, Sara Lynne Faris, age 91, of Winchester, Tennessee, departed this life on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness.  Mrs. King was born in Winchester, Tennessee, on April 17, 1932, to the late Thomas Atkerson Faris and Louie Holder Faris.  Mrs. King is a 47-year member of the Decherd First United Methodist Church.  She was employed as office manager for Dr. Reynolds Fite for approximately 16 years until his retirement. She was a homemaker for several years and was able to help take care of her mother and several family members who were sick or bedridden when she was younger and not working. She was then employed by the Franklin County School Board as a materials clerk and then school bus director.  She was then employed at the Herald-Chronicle in Winchester, where she was employed as a receptionist until her retirement. She loved to sew and made a lot of her own clothes.  Mrs. King always loved to travel and never did get to do a lot.  In the past several years she enjoyed going to eat out with her sons.  When she became unable to get out very much she enjoyed watching her westerns on T.V.  She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, and mother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Harry Doddridge King, Jr.  She is survived by her sons, David King and Greg King, both of Winchester; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Services will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Interment will follow in the Winchester Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Harry.  

THOMAS MYERS

 MYERS, Thomas William, age 84, of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on Oct. 6, 1938, to the late Frederick Thomas and Miriam Elizabeth (Keller) Myers. Tom served his country in the United States Air Force. He received one bachelor’s degree from Howard College and another from Auburn University. During his work career, he was a forester for the State of Alabama, as well as a registered land surveyor, eventually retiring as a draftsman for a survey company. An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed reading and studying on the front porch, nature photography, fishing and boating as well as building models. A true Christian man, he was devoted to the Lord and was a dedicated member of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his kind nature and wonderful sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Myers; granddaughter, Brooke A. Cowart; and grandsons, Christopher Myers and Timothy Myers. CALVIN GEORGE

 GEORGE, Calvin Daylon, age 44, of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at his residence while surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Coffee County on Aug. 21, 1979, to the late Calvin and Martha Sue (Taylor) George.  He had previously been employed by Commercial Construction Company.  In his spare time, Calvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, floating and fishing on the river and working on cars and motorcycles.  He will be remembered for his colorful personality.  Calvin is survived by his siblings, Maranda (Aaron) Thrasher and Shelby Shockley; nieces and nephews, Ryan Morris, Austin Sons, Ethan Sons, Anakin Thrasher and Kylo Thrasher; and aunts and uncles, Jim (Alicia) Taylor, Brenda Hall and Mary Sons.  Private services are planned. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, 931-967-2222, www.moorecortner.com. 

DARREN BAGGETT

 BAGGETT, Darren, age 58, of Belvidere, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at St. Thomas-Midtown Medical Center in Nashville.  A native of Franklin County, he was born in Winchester, on May 22, 1965.  He currently was self-employed, driving a truck in the transportation industry.  An avid outdoorsman, Darren enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially when taking his grandchildren.  But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his beloved family.  Darren is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Michelle Jackson Baggett of Belvidere; son, John (Brittany) Baggett of Belvidere; daughter, Katie (Steven) Short of Winchester; parents, Johnny and Frances Baggett of Belvidere; siblings, Leslie (Robin) Creasman of Winchester, Brian Baggett of Belvidere, and Lyndi (Darrin) Bean of Estill Springs; grandchildren, Gracie Short, Jake Short, Kalynn Baggett, Weston Baggett and Adaline Baggett; and fur baby, “Sam Sam.”  Visitation was held on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. JEFF JOHNSON

 JOHNSON, Jeff, age 68, departed this life on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, at his home in Winchester, Tennessee. He was born on Jan. 20, 1955. He was a native of West Huntsville and Toney Alabama. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Cleburne “Buttermilk” Johnson and mother, Julia Bradford Johnson; grandparents, General Lee Bradford, Nellie Armstrong Bradford, Hugh Robert Johnson and Bernice Fann Johnson; sister-in-law, Ngaire Church Johnson; and stepdaughter, Johnnie Wiggins. DEBORAH CASTRO

 CASTRO, Deborah Lynn Laten, age 74,of Tullahoma, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at her home, while surrounded by her family. Mrs. Castro was born in Houston, Texas, to the late Charles Laten, Sr. and Lois Koonce Laten. After graduating from high school, Deborah worked as a cosmetologist and owned her own beauty shop. She then went on to become an accountant, during which time she worked as the national coordinator of property acquisitions and transmissions for American Invesco. This job then lead to her becoming a commercial property appraiser and founding her own company, Deborah Laten Appraisals. She was also an avid quilter and will be remembered as an excellent cook. In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Laten, II, Rocky Laten and Dwight Laten. She is survived by her husband, Xavier Castro; son, Jason Walker (Cayenne); daughter, Jennifer Wynne (Thomas); step-daughter, Michelle Castro-Wengler (Daniel); five grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy, Jayden, Lily and Milo; one sister, Janis Majewski (Leo); special cousin, Kathy Bush (Keith); and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Deborah was a kind, loving, special woman who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023, from noon to 2 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. DONNIE GIPSON

GIPSON, Donnie Dale, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at 9:48 a.m.  He was a veteran of the United States Marines Corps.  Donnie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Gipson; son, Darren Shane (Kendra) Gipson; daughter, Dawn Luna; sister, Clyda Faye (Wayne) Hall; brother, Randy Gipson; four grandchildren, Courtney (Chris) Blanchard, Luke Luna, Layne Gipson and Dylan Luna; and three great-grandchildren, Delaney Blanchard, Loralei Blanchard and Rheagan Blanchard. CORA EAKINS

 EAKINS, Cora Frances Clark, age 82, of Decherd, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Sewanee.  She was born in Kentucky on Oct. 7, 1940, to the late Otha B. and Stella Mae (Polly) Clark.  A dedicated homemaker, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family.  She enjoyed reading and playing bridge in her spare time.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Frank Eakins and sisters, Ruth Rideout and Mary Catherine Clark.  Cora Frances is survived by her loving sons, David M. Eakins of Smyrna and Richard A. (Pearl J.)
