The Franklin County Rebelettes played in the Dream for Weave Southern Slam tournament Saturday in Manchester and ended the event with a record of 1-3.

The Rebelettes had one win and two losses in pool play before being eliminated by Cascade in the first round of the Silver bracket to end their tournament run.

Franklin County head volleyball coach Herb Horton said that he thought his team played well through the first three matches, but fatigue caught up with his players during their final game for the day.

“When we came over here for this (match), our energy level was just not where it needs to be,” he said, referring to the contest against Cascade before shifting focus to his thoughts on the day as a whole. “It was a good day overall. Hopefully we learned some things.”

The Rebelettes began play on Saturday morning at Coffee County Middle School with a loss to the Goodpasture Christian Lady Cougars in two sets.

The Lady Cougars scored the first seven points of the first set and built on their advantage the rest of the way to give the Rebelettes a 25-7 loss for the frame.

The Rebelettes took an early 9-5 lead in the second set, but the Lady Cougars ended the game on a 20-4 run for a decisive 25-13 loss to clinch a sweep in the first match of Pool D.

The Rebelettes returned to the court to take on the Hardin Valley Academy Hawks and won in three sets.

The Rebelettes led by as many as nine points in the opening set and were able to maintain a steady edge down the stretch for a 25-19 win in the frame.

The Rebelettes held a 10-7 lead in the early stages of the second set before the Hawks caught fire with an 18-5 run which allowed them to give the Rebelettes a 25-15 defeat for the frame.

The Rebelettes were trailing 10-6 midway through the first-to-15 third set and scored nine of the next 10 points for a 15-11 victory with a combined block by Madisan Redmon and Mackenzie Arnold producing the final point needed to take the set and the match.

The Rebelettes concluded pool play with a loss in straight sets to the Spring Hill Lady Raiders.

The Rebelettes took an early lead in the opening set and stayed in front for a majority of the frame, but an 8-3 run by the Lady Raiders late gave Franklin County a narrow 25-23 loss to start the match.

The second set would have a similar result to the first as the Rebelettes held a 9-3 lead to start before the Lady Raiders scored 22 of the next 29 points to give them a 25-16 loss for the frame to end the match.

The Rebelettes finished third in their pool as they were placed into the Silver bracket at Westwood Middle School for single-elimination play.

It would be a short stay in the bracket for the Rebelettes as they were swept by the Cascade Lady Champions in the quarterfinals.

The first set went back and forth early with a 9-5 lead for the Rebelettes to start turning into a 17-11 deficit after a 12-2 run by the Lady Champions.

The Rebelettes made up a small amount of ground the rest of the way, but it wouldn’t be enough to avoid a 25-20 loss to open the match.

The score was kept close for most of the second set with the Rebelettes taking a 16-15 lead late in the frame, but the Lady Champions then scored 10 of the next 12 points to give them a 25-18 loss for the set and to secure a sweep.

With the results from the tournament, the Rebelettes moved to 4-13 on the season.

They will next play Monday at Fayetteville City High School. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
