Crabtree assigns WInchester committee posts
With new leadership in place, Winchester Mayor Sean Crabtree announced committee appointments during his first meeting heading the City Council on Sept. 12.
Crabtree became Winchester’s new mayor on Aug. 3 after emerging as the victor in a three-way race during the city’s annual municipal election.
The Winchester City Council also gained a new member with former Franklin County Sheriff Mike Foster garnering one of two open positions.
Crabtree finished the election with 414 votes, making his way past Steve Cagley, who opted to run for mayor instead of seeking re-election as a Winchester city councilman. Cagley finished with 315 votes while former General Sessions Judge David A. Marlow recorded 113 votes.
Winchester Mayor Terry Harrell did not seek re-election, opening up the field to new blood.
Foster recorded 343 votes to lead a field of five vying for the two open Winchester city council positions. Incumbent Barbara Lucas retained her seat with 307 votes. She was followed in the voting order by Tim L. Wright with 298, Kent Bean with 216 and Gary L. Horn with 215.
Crabtree appointed Foster as the City County representative on the Winchester Airport Authority.
Councilwoman Lydia Curtis Johnson will continue to serve as the council’s representative on the Winchester Beer Board. Crabtree also reappointed Skye Maxon Phillips to the Beer Board.
He appointed Councilwoman Barbara Lucas as the council’s representative on the Winchester Design Review Commission and also appointed Ricky Tipps, the new Winchester Downtown Program Corp. executive director, to serve on the commission.
Crabtree announced that he will fill the Winchester Planning Commission seat vacated by Harrell. Councilman Michael Sisk will continue to serve on the Planning Commission.
Crabtree will also fill Harrell’s seat on the Winchester Utilities Board.
Councilman Willie Womack will continue to serve on the Consolidated Communications board and serve as vice mayor.
